Aida Count Calculator — Design Size by Count

Calculate finished design size based on Aida cloth count.

How We Calculate This

The finished design size depends on the stitch count and the fabric count. This calculator shows the finished size across all common Aida counts for comparison.

The formula

Size (cm) = Stitch count ÷ Aida count × 2.54 + (2 × margin)

Stitch count ÷ Aida count gives the finished size in inches; × 2.54 converts to centimetres. The optional Margin Each Side is added to every edge, so it adds twice the margin to each overall dimension. With margin left at 0 the result is the bare finished design size.

Buying fabric: add a border

The headline figures are the stitched area only. When buying Aida, add roughly 7.5 cm (3 in) of spare fabric on every side for handling, mounting and framing — the standard DMC / Cross Stitch Guild allowance — or up to 10–13 cm per side for professional framing. Enter that border in Margin Each Side to see the fabric size to order.
